Synopsis

Varisu (transl. Heir) is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language action drama film directed by Vamshi Paidipally who co-wrote it with Hari and Ashishor Solomon. Produced jointly by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinema, the film stars Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna. The music is composed by Thaman S, cinematography is handled by Karthik Palani and editing by Praveen K. L Vijay, The prodigal son of business tycoon Rajendran agrees to take over the reins of the business, much to the chagrin of his brothers. But can Vijay prove himself to be a worthy varisu and also reunite his now-broken family?

Vijay Rajendran is the youngest son of an eminent industrialist Rajendran Palanisamy. However, he was disowned and thrown out of the house by his father as he refused to join the family business, instead launching a food-delivery startup. Rajendran is diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and has only a few months left to live. He decides to reveal his condition and anoint either one of his two elder sons, Jai and Ajay, as his heir once he dies, and with this in mind, he plans to celebrate his 65th birthday in a grand manner, with the intention of announcing both matters during the celebration. Vijay too is invited at the behest of his wife Sudha, who loves Vijay and still considers him as her son. Vijay arrives at his house only to find it in disarray; his eldest brother Jai is cheating on his wife with another woman and is neglecting his family, including his teenage Varisu daughter Ria; his second brother Ajay is secretly working for Jayaprakash “JP”, Rajendran’s business rival, for monetary gain; the brothers themselves don’t talk with each other and constantly fight for being their father’s successor. Meanwhile, Vijay meets Meghana, Jai’s sister-in-law (wife’s younger sister) who has a crush on Vijay since her childhood. After a few incidents, both fall in love.
