Sardar is an 2022 Indian Tamil-language action spy film written and directed by P. S. Mithran.[5] Produced by S. Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures, the film stars Karthi in a dual role[6] with Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Chunky Panday, Laila, Rithvik, Munishkanth, Ashwin Kumar, Yugi Sethu, Avinash, Yog Japee and Mohammad Ali Baig in prominent roles.[7][8] The film marks Hindi film actor Panday’s debut in Tamil cinema, and Laila’s comeback to cinema after 16 years.[9][10] The film music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, with cinematography doned by George C. Williams, and film edited by Ruben.
The film was announced on November 2020, with shootings started on April 2021. The film shootings has been delayed for 1 year, due to the COVID- 19 pandemics. Filming took place in Chennai, Mumbai, Azarbaijan and Georgia, and moved into post-production working on August 2022.
Sardar was released by theatrically on 21 October 2022, prior to the Diwali week, with received highly positive reviews from critics and became a critical and commercial success at the box-office, by grossing around âš100 crore (US$13 million) worldwide. An espionage agent who is branded a traitor returns from exile to take down a dubious water project and safeguard the country. Inspector Vijay Prakash is a publicity-hungry officer, who lives with his adopted uncle, Paavadaisaami. He wants to receive good publicity, as his father Chandra Bose who was declared as a national traitor, due to which, his family committed suicide. Vijay tries to woo his lawyer friend Shalini, but she refuse to accept him, due to his hunger of publicity, and Vijay explains his all pains and problems from since his childhood. Later, Vijay is assigned a mission of catching a mastermind, who has stolen a highly classified file containing background information of agents that have been working in the RAW since 1980s.
