Synopsis

Abbar Kanchanjangha is a Bengali feature film celebrating 100 years of Satyajit Ray, produced by Shilpi A Pandey & Akshatt K Pandey and Directed by Raajhorshee De . First time ever 17 stars come together as a cast for any Bengali film .

Let’s get this clear at the onset that Abbar Kanchanjangha has nothing to do with Satyajit Ray’s 1962 film, Kanchenjungha. Director Raajhorshee De has pulled off a casting coup of sorts with more than 15 actors and actresses portraying different characters. They travel together to Darjeeling, pretend to be closely knit, but fall apart in no time. Set in the backdrop of Darjeeling, where the family has its ancestral home, the film deals with interpersonal relationships between brothers, ex-lovers, masters and caretakers, sisters-in-law, cousins and so on. From financial to health and sometimes legal, there are several issues plaguing the family. Despite the presence of fine actors and actresses, the film fails to develop the characters properly. While some remain in focus, some trail off Abbar Kanchanjangha in oblivion only to make an appearance at a point when everyone has forgotten them. However, each actor appears to be convincing enough. A few of them need special mention. Arpita looks very pretty on screen and delivers a gorgeous performance. Rahul as Debesh, a politician, has put up a brilliant act. His crass and crude nature comes out effortlessly. While Tnusree Chakraborty, Kaushik Sen, Padmanabha Dasgupta and others have essayed a very decent performance, it is Bidipta Chakraborty who steals the show among family members. While her makeup was a little over the top, her performance was spot on. She was one of the most convincing characters in the film.
